Meals I suggest SuperCoat Puppy (or equivalent high quality dry puppy food) as the bulk of the meal with mince, cooked rice and cooked vegetable mixed together. Pasta can be used as a substitute for rice. Worming The puppy will have been wormed every two weeks until you take it home, wait until your puppy's second vaccination and ask your vet about worming - however generally once every six months for adults is required. Bones Definitely no chop or chicken bones (or cooked bones) as these can be fatal. An occasional marrowbone is ok, brisket bones are probably the best from the pet shop or butcher. Kenneling I recommend the puppy have an enclosed yard with a warm dry kennel or shed. This way you know the dog is secure when you are out, or you can put the dog in it's own area during the day for a sleep or when you have guests etc. Walking You will need to purchase a lead and choker chain to walk your dog. A collar is useless as you are unable to correct the dog and it will end up unmanageable. The dog should always be walked on the left on a lead unless you are in a secluded running area. Vaccinations Your puppy has been vaccinated at six weeks and this takes approximately 10 days to be effective, so please keep your dog away from other strange dogs. The vet card I give you will have the next required vaccination date on it, there will be two vaccinations for approximately 1 month apart and then 1 vaccination annually. These vaccinations should be strictly adhered to as the parvovirus and others are highly contagious and deadly. |
